Join us for a 5-day International Cultural Immersion Program before you head to ICMS!

The 5-day International Cultural Immersion Program is an in-country orientation designed to welcome you to your host country, help you adjust to the academic and cultural differences you might encounter, introduce you to other study abroad students that will be attending ICMS and expose you to a beautiful and exciting area of Australia.

Past students have raved about this program, expressing how many friends they made, how much they loved the activities and how great the leaders were. We are confident that you will find the program to be a unique educational aspect to your study abroad experience and it will prepare you for a semester of new adventures and lifelong memories.
 

Educational Session Topics include:

Culture – How is Australia different from your home Country?
Health and Safety Abroad – Gain information about the laws and infrastructure of Australia.
Education System – Learn about the Australian Education system and what your professors will expect from you during your studies at ICMS.
Cultural Adjustment – What to expect from yourself in your new environment.
Living in Australia – How do you open a bank account? What time is it at home? How do I call home and let them know I'm ok? Although it may seem basic we'll cover these topics and more to make sure you're ready to really LIVE in Australia, not just visit.

Excursions & Activities include:

Great Barrier Reef Day – The Great Barrier Reef of Australia is the largest structure on earth comprised of living organisms and can be seen from space. A World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Barrier Reef offers you an unparalleled view of the vast amount of life in Australia's oceans. You will have the opportunity to snorkel or scuba dive within your first few days in your new home!

Australian Wildlife & Indigenous Culture – Have you ever pet a kangaroo? How about hold a koala? The Rainforestation Nature Park will give you the opportunity to have a close encounter with some of Australia's most iconic animals. In addition, you'll learn about Aboriginal culture and history in this magnificent excursion.

Adventure Day – Now that you've checked "Hold Koala", "Pet Kangaroo", and "See the Great Barrier Reef" off of your list, it's time for a free day! Spend time exploring Cairns or book one of our exciting excursions like White Water Rafting, Mountain Biking, and More!

Cost of program is approximately AUD$750. Please note that fees are subject to change. Flights to and from Cairns are not included.

Program Dates

The next Cultural Immersion Program will take place from 12-16 September 2012.

It is the students responsibility to book their own flights in and out of Cairns. You should arrive as close to midday on Wednesday 1 February as possible. If you arrive around this time, then there will be group transportation to your accommodation. If you arrive after 1pm on that day, then you will need to find your own transport. Taxi's cost about $30 and take 15 minutes. There will be a group flight that you can book on back to Sydney, but at this time that flight is not known. Please do not book your own flight back to Sydney, group flight details will be provided upon application.
