Event Management Students help ‘Roll Out the Red Carpet’ at the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter Annual Gala Ball

April 26, 2024

Over 30 ICMS Event Management students dedicated their time at the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter Gala earlier in April.

This experience not only provided them with valuable industry immersion but also promoted civic engagement within the community.

This event took place at the Manly Pacific Hotel, where guests dressed up in cocktail outfits following the theme ‘Roll Out The Red Carpet’.

The gala was a crucial fundraiser for the shelter, celebrating past successes and raising funds for future projects.

“We were thrilled to assist at the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter Gala event,” ICMS Event Management lecturer Janene Wardrop said.

“This is industry immersion in action! I’m extremely proud of my students who eagerly seized this chance to impact others’ lives positively.”

NBWS Fundraising and Communications Manager Kirstie Christensen said the Womens Shelter appreciated the ICMS students’ involvement, and praised their professionalism.

“The students were exceptionally professional on the night, and their ability to work diligently behind the scenes was truly admirable,” she said.

“The idea to have personal concierges for each table was a brilliant addition and brought a special touch to the evening.”

Reaching out to the local community

The Northern Beaches Womens Shelter is a safe place for women in the Northern Beaches community who need help. They support women facing homelessness, domestic violence, and other tough situations. The shelter helps women feel safe, respected, and gives them the support they need to start anew.

ICMS has campuses located in Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW, and in the city of Sydney, and is committed to supporting women in need within the local community.

By participating in the gala, the college aimed to raise awareness and connect with supporters, ensuring the continuation of vital services for those in need.

The event not only showcased the generosity and dedication of ICMS students but also highlighted the importance of community engagement in addressing societal challenges.

“I feel honoured to have been part of such a meaningful event,” ICMS SRC president and second year student Tamzin Harris said.

“Seeing the impact we can make by coming together as a community is truly inspiring, and it’s great industry experience too.”

Industry immersion in action

The Gala Event doubled as both an opportunity for ICMS EVT203A students to give back to the community and to gain valuable industry experience.

“Working behind the scenes at a significant event like this gala dinner at Manly Pacific Sydney was eye-opening for many students who had never experienced such hands-on involvement before,” Wardrop said.

“The reflective assessments they completed showed the immense value of these practical opportunities in enhancing their understanding of event planning and management.”
