Compulsory Elective for Property Students only and General Elective for Student from Other Programs

Pre-requisite/co-requisite:

A total of 12 credit points including ACC101A, MKT101A, STA101A and MGT101A from level 100 core subjects (approximately 80% completion of level 100 core subjects) prior enrolling into level 200 core and specialisation subjects.

Subject Aim:

This subject will extend students understanding of simple, single residential dwelling developments to building construction techniques utilised in more complex to high-rise construction developments ensuring they meet the National Construction Codes.

Students, by applying understanding of best practice procedures and legislative policy control, will gain an appreciation of associated issues including measurement, contract procurement and control, depreciation and obsolescence, and life cycle analysis.

Students will explore construction value adding techniques including risk analysis and value management to complete a feasibility study of a more complex construction along with identifying key input variables.

Learning Outcomes:

a) Apply simple land and building surveying techniques

b) Analyse the function and nature of complex buildings and services installed within them.

c) Compare materials and appropriate construction techniques utilised in more complex and high-rise developments based on regulatory, safety and environmental analysis.

d) Explain issues encountered by complex or high-rise buildings including funding, ownership, design and construction

e) Prepare detailed feasibility study reports for complex developments
