Subject Aim:

The event management field has undergone a huge amount of change over the past decade. Factors fuelling this process include growth in the size and complexity of events and the realisation that events are powerful marketing and communication tools. It is now more important to have the capability to design events that are innovative and can draw attention to and help them to receive international media attention. Events are a core part of how cities and towns communicate their brand attributes, they are a key part of destination marketing. In order to attract private and public sector investment, events require a solid business case based on critical and objective assessments., This subject will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to prepare such a business case for an event. There are a number of other elements to consider in the design of events, including online technology planning tools, introduced in this subject.

Learning Outcomes:

a) Design an event from concept to evaluation utilising a range of creative, critical analysis and design skills.
b) Engage in appropriate and independent event development research.
c) Undertake a full event feasibility study.
d) Prepare a comprehensive business case to present to a major Events Board for approval.
e) Critique best practice events in terms of innovation, technology and design across Australia and globally.
f) Assess the critical success factors for major events.
