Our Employability Framework

Employability Framework

At ICMS, we have an industry-leading approach to employability. We aim to cultivate exceptional careers for our students, graduates and alumni through a co-ordinated, multi-faceted, whole-of-institution approach.

Our Employability Framework outlines five ways that career development is integrated into all that we do.

Live it

Culture, attitude and communication

We believe that every staff member, in every interaction they have, can impact on a student’s employability. Our Professional Mentor philosophy creates a culture of employability, which draws on the vast amount of collective experience within our faculty, staff and student community.

Learn it

The curriculum experience

ICMS has been a leader in the field of work-integrated learning (WIL) for nearly 30 years, meaning that the world of work is present in each subject in many ways – be it content, industry guest lectures and visits, industry case studies and projects, industry expert lecturers guiding students through industry-specific assessments and more. Uniquely for the higher education sector, every ICMS program requires students to experience a period of professional placement. This is the purest form of work-integrated learning as it affords each student up to two trimesters of actual experience in their chosen industry.

Do it

Volunteering and professional experiences

We provide opportunities for students to enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences in the industry they’re studying. This helps them build their resume, make valuable contacts and get a taste of their future career. ICMS students have attended New York and Melbourne Fashion Weeks, conducted property study tours of the Middle East, and attended national industry conferences such as the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME). In addition to this, the College is regularly approached by industry and community partners to offer volunteer opportunities. This helps students gain additional experience and contribute to significant community projects with impact.

Drive it

Professional Development Lab

Our Professional Development (PD) Lab is a platform designed to build strong industry connections, create valuable networking opportunities for students, and drive other employability development initiatives, such as industry masterclasses. PD Lab sessions are available to all students to ‘drive’ their employability to higher levels.

Maximise and mentor it

Graduate employment and alumni support

We believe that by maintaining a strong alumni community, students and new graduates can connect with and take advantage of the mentoring and career opportunities within that community – which is more than 10,000 strong. ICMS supports alumni and current students alike, through resources such as our Jobs Board and alumni resources. These continue to support students long after they complete their studies.
