High Demand for ICMS Experiential Learning Experts Academic Books

International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) Associate Professor Joanna Crossman recently returned from America where she launched two of her new academic books – one of which sold out – at the 78th Annual Meeting of The Academy of Management (AOM) held in Chicago.

Billed as the largest management conference internationally, more than 10 000 delegates from around the world attend annually to share research and expertise in all management disciplines. AOM was established in 1936 as a professional association for scholars of management and organisations, and membership stands at around 19000 members from over 115 countries.

It was in this context that Crossman, who joined ICMS in April this year as Associate Dean: Postgraduate and International, launched two of her new books: The Palgrave Handbook of Workplace Spirituality and Fulfillment and Teaching Human Resource Management: An Experiential Approach. Crossman also presented a paper on “Followship” which was based on one of the chapters she authored in The Palgrave Handbook of Workplace Spirituality and Fulfillment. This work explores how individuals and organisations engage with spiritual issues in the workplace.

Teaching Human Resource Management: An Experiential Approach, published by Edward Elgar and co-edited by Suzanne de Janasz, sold out at the conference. This academic book, which breathes life into the teaching of Human Resources Management (HRM) by creating learning that applies the theoretical aspects of the discipline to meaningful contexts, was published in July this year.

The Palgrave Handbook of Workplace Spirituality and Fulfillment was written by Crossman with two American business experts, Satinder Dhiman of the Woodbury University in California and Gary E. Roberts of the Regent University in Virginia. This two-volume book presents a clear and concise approach to spirituality in the workplace, and maps the genesis and growth of this burgeoning field while also suggesting trends and directions.

As well as her editing role in this publication, Crossman also contributed three chapters to the book: Spiritual Followship: Emerging Conceptualizations; Internal Auditing of Organisational Spiritual Identity (OSI); and Celebrating Interconnectedness as a Spiritual paradigm for Teaching, Learning and the Internationalization of Higher Education.

With international experience as a manager and educator over the past 40 years, Crossman has authored over 60 reviewed works, many published in top ranking, international journals. She is an excellent addition to the ICMS faculty and is based at the award-winning higher-education institution located in Northern Beaches, NSW, Sydney. Crossman’s research over the past decade into experiential learning is critical in the college’s aim to implement proven strategies for improving student outcomes.
