International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) graduate Tessa Gosselin will be right in the thick of the heart-stopping action at the SuperFoiler Grand Prix currently being raced across Australia.
As events manager of SuperFoiler Grand Prix, Tessa is managing the events that will put Australia on the world map of high octane speed sports. And it’s thanks to ICMS industry connections that she is thriving in such a role.
The five-race series features six international crews competing in the world’s fastest foiling sail-racers in locations across NSW, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria.
The SuperFoiler Grand Prix can be likened to T20 cricket for its spectator-friendly vibe and displays of sailing prowess at high speed. The SuperFoiler is 26 feet long, 17 feet wide and weighs 350 kilos, and foiling technology sets sail racing ablaze by allowing wind-powered vessels to hit record speeds.
According to the SuperFoiler website, “the speed machines bring together aerodynamic and hydrodynamic excellence to create the fastest foil-borne course-racing machine of its size on the planet.”
Putting together the events that will match the hype of the series is no easy task. Tessa uses all the skills learned while studying her Masters degree (Management and Organisations) at ICMS, coupled with her vast experience in events and hospitality to pull off back-to-back events with style and flair.
Tessa joined father and son duo Bill and Jack Macartney, who conceived the SuperFoiler Grand Prix idea, over a year ago to get all the locations on board and to set up the events.
“To pull this off takes a lot of dedication and teamwork. We’ve had a lot of knock backs along the way but I’m happy to say we have pulled it off and it’s been an amazing week down here in Adelaide. I think the most important factor here is teamwork; we all work towards a common goal and are not afraid to take on any task,” Tessa said.
“I obtained this position with SuperFoiler through ICMS and am very grateful to be part of this amazing adventure. I think what makes me the proudest is that we built this series of events from scratch and it’s amazing to now see them come to life.”
Sydney will host the series finale of the SuperFoiler Grand Prix, which started in December, on the weekend of 23-25 March. The series will be televised by the Seven Network.
